We propose a completely new coupling strategy for TMP, namely lateral connection, to activate its localized modes. The one-dimensional laterally connected TMP (LCTMP) exhibits crossing points between two types of localized modes. By introducing excess folds into the TMP, topological states can be induced at these positions. Depending on the folding angle of the TMP, the topological states in the LCTMP show tunable characteristics. This feature may enable applications such as fold-tunable energy harvesters and highly sensitive sensors.
